What is anxiety?

So many of my client's speak of sharing their worries with loved ones who respond by explaining how illogical the worries are, or telling them to simply "stop worrying." What these responses neglect to understand is that most people with anxiety already know that their anxiety (worries and/or thoughts) are not be logical or rational... yet, they still can not control them. That is the tricky part of having anxiety! I used the following analogy to explain this to a client, using probability, which is a common CBT strategy.
